The finalists for the selection of Ratu Jamu Gendong and Jamu Gendong Exemplary 2014 visited a number of tourist destinations in the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang Regency, Central Java, Saturday.
The finalists, totaling 22 people, visited, among others, the traditional pottery center in Klipoh Hamlet, Karanganyar Village, the “Rik Rok” wood craft place and the rengginang making place in Dusun Stay, Wanurejo Village.
The finalists consisted of 13 finalists for the selection of Ratu Jamu Gendong and nine finalists for Jamu Gendong Teladan.
Participating in the visit was Ratu Jamu Carrying 2012, Triningsih (27), who came from Sukoharjo. For the last 10 years, he has been selling herbal medicine in Cirebon, West Java.
At the “Rik Rik” wood craft center, the finalists were guided by the owner of the tourism business, Ipung, to practice making Borobudur souvenirs called “pencil slang”.
The Chairperson of the Selection Committee for the 2014 Queen of Herbs and Exemplary Herbs, Aries Rahardjo, said that the visit to the tourist village around Borobudur Temple was aimed at broadening the horizons of the finalists.
“This aims to broaden their horizons about tourist villages, about the business world of the tourist villages here. They also run an economic business every day through traditional herbal products and packaging, of course this is beneficial for their knowledge,” he said.
The final election of Ratu Jamu Gendong will be held at the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park complex on Sunday (7/12). The finalists have been in quarantine since Friday (5/12).
He said the evaluation criteria for the selection of Ratu Jamu Gendong and Jamu Gendong Teladan 2014 included knowledge of herbal medicine, brewing and selling skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and appearance.
Participants in the selection of Ratu Jamu Gendong are 18-35 years old, while Jamu Gendong Teladan is 35-55 years old. The audition stage, which was attended by 707 people, took place in seven cities, namely Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Cikampek, Cirebon, Semarang, and Solo, from August to October 2014.
